Origin of battleship

Battleship is an extremely popular board game across the world. It is played between two people and is a great game for any age group. The game came into existence in the early 1900’s. Discovered by Clifford Von Wickler, this game is based on the famous World War I. Battleship has been admired as the Paper and Pencil game. Paper and Pencil games are those that can be played alone with a paper and a pencil. Other popular paper and pencil games are Tic-Tac-Toe, Paper soccer, Hangman and Racetrack. Though there is a paper and pencil version on which the game was based on, Battleship is more popular today as a board game.

Initially when the Milton Bradley Company published it in 1943, it was a naval strategy competition. The board game was published in the year 1967. Recently there have been other editions launched by the company. In 2008, ‘The Tactical Combat’ has been launched which is the latest version of Battleship. A number of alterations have been made including the shape of the ships, shape of the board, which is now hexagon and addition of several small islands in the game. Other editions include electronic battleship, Star Wars advanced mission battleship and Pirates of the Caribbean battleship. Also, there are battleship puzzles and video games that are available.

Electronic battleship is played with the computer as an opponent. It was soon developed in 1977 ten years after the publishing of the classic battleship. Star Wars battleship version was a huge hit in the market due to its exciting characters.
