Moscow 2

Moscow was first mentioned in the chronicles dating back to the year 1147. Prince Yuri Dolgoruky founded it more than eight centuries ago. Historians have accepted the year 1147 as the beginning of Moscow’s history.

In my opinion, all people who come to Moscow should see the Kremlin and Red Square. The Kremlin is the heart of Moscow.

It is Moscow’s oldest historical and architectural center. On Red Square there is a monument to Minin and Pozharsky, and St. Basil’s Cathedral which was built in the mid-16th century in memory of the victory over Kazan.

Today, Moscow is the capital of Russia, its political, economic, cultural and commercial center, and one of the largest cities in the world. The population of the city is over 9 million. Moscow is the seat of the Russian Parliament and the center of political life. There are more than 80 museums. The largest are the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov Gallery. The best-known theatre is the Bolshoi Theatre. Moscow is a city of students, and has over eighty higher educational institutions.
