Global warming is the term used to describe the relatively dramatic rise in the world’s average temperature during the 20th Century. If you were to ask environmentalists what will happen to the world as a result of global warming, they will begin by telling you that it is all the fault of the industrial revolution and that if it continues, it will destroy civilization as we know it. The truth of the matter is that we don’t know why global warming is happening.
The industrial revolution probably has got something to do with it, and smoke from burning fossil fuels does contain greenhouse gases which can cause global warming, but no one is quite sure to what extent these gases are responsible for the warming of the Earth. It has been suggested that the sun itself could be to blame. Average temperatures might be slightly hotter than usual, but this could be due to normal fluctuations of the sun warming the Earth.
Global warming is a problem, and we should take any steps we can to prevent it.
