Быть или не быть? / To be or not to be?

I think that a lot of people have heard about Russian State Exams. It is a new kind of examination which was introduced not long ago. Russian and Math are compulsory ones. A lot of pupils and even students have to pass it. And is it a good idea or not? Let`s think about it.

Firstly, I want to describe the structure of such English exam, which I have already passed. It consists of 5 parts: Listening (14 tasks), Reading (20 tasks) , Grammar and Vocabulary (20 tasks), Writing (writing a letter and an article) and Speaking (talking on a topic). But last year there were all parts except Speaking, because it takes a lot of time. Time for writing the exam is limited. Moreover, you are not allowed to use a dictionary or other stuff which can help you to do it. You put down your answers Into special forms. So, you have to be very careful.

No wonder, there are some disadvantages of this exam. First one is that there are a lot of mistakes in tasks. Some of them were composed incorrectly. According to some teachers not all subjects` exams can be held in such way. For example, Literature and History can not be checked by tests. It should show how you understand the subject and your creativeness. A lot of pupils make mistakes when they fill in answer sheets, because these papers are very uncomfortable. Some information you put on the top, then at the bottom and then again on the top. Besides, there is a percent of guessing in them. So, getting your mark looks like taking part in some TV-show as “How to win a million”. Discipline level on the exam is very Different. There are classes where you “can not breathe without permission” and in others teachers help pupils to do their tasks and even do them instead. It is not fair! And the main problem is that our educational system is not prepared for such exam. Most pupils have to hire tutors to prepare for exams and spend a lot of money.

On the other hand they have some advantages. There is no doubt that it is comfortable, because you can send copies of your exams` results to many universities and you needn`t go there and take exams. By the way, thanks to such form of exam you know what to learn and in what way, so you know what to expect. It also a big plus! Moreover, there will be fewer backhanders, because it will be more difficult to pay money for entering a university. It is A good idea.

To sum up, Russian State Exams have advantages and disadvantages. An English proverb says “Many men, many minds”. To my mind, it is rather good idea, but it needs improving. It is not so difficult if you know thesubject. I wish good luck to everyone who is going to take it.
